I've tried selling things using the "PM offer" line once. Only because I wasn't sure what the item was worth. For 15 minutes I stood there and got exactly zero offers. So that was a big waste of time. (Did a PC later & sold it for that much in about 5 minutes)
If you do know what you're hoping to get for the thing, put a price on it! It's only a couple more keystrokes. Regardless of your selling style, there's no excuse for rudeness - if someone gives you an offer, politely respond. Remember, buyers are looking for the best deal they can get, too. So if an offer seems too low, it probably has nothing to do with being a noob. It's too bad that the art of haggling is lost on us Americans. LOL
My favorite exchange, repeated so many times I no longer make offers...
Me: WTB Req 8 15^50 sword, any skin.
Trader: I have
*self invites to your group*
*opens trade and shows a req 8 15^50 gladius*
Me: how much?
Trader: offer
Me: 5k seems a fair price
Trader: stupid noob
*close trade*
*leave group*
These guys really anger me when they have no clue what their items are actually worth. What really angers me is there are probably players out there paying 30k for a gladius.
-Phantom.
To expect to buy a perfect weapon for 5k, may not deserve that exact response, the better response would have been "nty"
You can't even buy a Droks blue for that price when you figure materials. Why would you think a gold would be worth less that that? Who is insulting who with that offer?
Certainly the guy was a jerk for responding in that fashion, but perhaps he was just tired of people trying to rip him off?
The insults go both ways, if you aren't sure of the value of a weapon, then perhaps you should do some price check research on the guru trade forums before making a fool of yourself?
I ignore offers from time to time, but the situation is a little different:
Me: WTS whatever item - 30k
Them: I'll give you 5k for it
And I DO check the prices on things. I don't call them noobs; I just ignore them. I can understand a little haggling but be reasonable, especially when I've given a fair price. Since I'm not asking for offers, I feel it's my right to ignore offers when I'm not in the mood to haggle. What really annoys me is when they proceed to spam these lowball offers at me, forcing me to put them on my ignore list.
I hate people that wont haggle especially for items over say 100k,ive noticed people use gurus minimum price as a max now, if its over gurus min price they arnt interested.
No offense but there are items that CANNOT be price checked. A bow grip of deathbane 20% back in the days (I have no clue about the current price sry) was worth from 40k to 70k. I would have been happy to sell one 40K I would have been happier to sell one 70K. If I spam: "WTS blah blah 70K", someone who would only pay 40k for that won't PM me because he think I won't make a 30k discount. If I spam "WTS bah bah 40k" then I may lose a lot of cash if there is someone willing to pay 70k for that. So "PM offer" is the right choice in this case. And it's not about scamming.
You just say "WTS : Item | 50k | FIRM no Haggling |"
I add 10k to what i want to get for the items under 100k so they will haggle and I will get what I want. For items 20-50k, I say FIRM. For items under 20K, Ill pretty much sell them to the first person to offer anything above the 50% mark of what I would like to get.
10k < Time spent playing.
For items over 100k I put the price I would be most happy with | 100k +20e | and know someone will try haggle me way down. Those I ignore. If someone comes up and offer +18e, Ill sell it. Many of these people who will buy it for +17e will try to resell for +20e for hours, Im happy getting my cash and moving on. Ill let the power buyers do their thing.
Most Important : I try very hard not to get annoyed with people or angry because someone calls me a noob. I have older siblings, making me angry was all they wanted when I was younger so I learned not to :P
If they dont offer what you want say "Sorry, too low. Good luck and have a nice day" and carry on selling.
I usually ignore people that give offer less than 80% of it's actual worth. And I usually ignore those "can I see?" people, because they're just not serious about buying.

Geez, well I'm sure you would do the same would'nt you?
Now, noticing a trend in this forum of rude and arse hole players, I'm surprised nobody has mentioned yet the CAUSE of this. Well, let me give my two cents about it.
Ok, people can say whatever they want, but this community is in a rapid decline. I cannot say about beta days, because I started playing this game 6 months ago, but I have noticed many players turning into just forum flamers and in game jackasses. Slowly, I'm sadly admitting, but I am crossing this border, and the reason being is boredome! All those bastards who say "No, guild wars is fine the way it is!! OMG NOOB GET OFF TEH FORUM RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE", ARE ON THE FORUM ALL THE TIME!IDIOTS, IF NOTHING IS WRONG WITH GUILD WARS WHY ARE YOU PLAYING THEN!!
Sorry for caps, but that was the best way to express the message. People are turning into bored, bitter morons, just because they refuse to admit the fact this game is falling apart. Whats the point of denying it anymore anyway.
This game is just as much grind as in other games, but its not as obvious to the common idiot. Think about it, before some of you make some dumbass comments like usual, not mentioning any names though.
Regarding the OP: if a seller doesn't respond to your offer, it's either because they didn't see your offer, or because your offer is not acceptable. In either case, just move on. I don't really see why it's rude.
As for people who won't haggle - a patient buyer doesn't have any incentive to allow you to raise the price, and a patient seller doesn't have any incentive to let you lower the price. If I go shopping, and I set the gurus minimum price as the max I'm willing to pay, why should I allow a seller to haggle the price higher? It doesn't make any sense. If you don't like my buy/sell price, go elsewhere. I'm not in any hurry.
For the people who whine about sellers without a price, grow up...
I usually allow any perspective buyer to name a fair price and then allow them to haggle with me over the details. I can suggest any price I want, but the item is only worth what someone will pay for it. I always make sure to say "Thank You" when accepting a trade too. Common Courtesy, it goes a long way, no?
AWigging, I suggest you go check the Price Check forum. A gladius isnt worth much more then 5-10k.
And besides its the seller who has to tell the price, not the buyer, When you go in a shop to buy a coke, does the person whos selling say Offer ?
Low end prices on comon skins are not exactly accurate. Why would a Gold Req 8 Gladuis be worth less than a req 9 you buy at Droks?
And you might want to reconsider those prices considering Nightfall is coming...
If, as stated in PCGamer you are able to salvage inherant damage mods and place them on other weapons, a 15^50 common skin will seriously inflate in price. This is of course assuming that we will not have a 100% chance at salvaging, which seems unlikely to the extreme
personally, i always put 'whisp offer', and make sure i knwo the value of what im selling, that way, if some1 whisps an offer, greater than wat its worth=more money for me, or if they ask how much? i can simply say how much. wat annoys me with selling are the people who still think that a weapons value is determined entirely by its mods, found sum1 trying to sell a req 13 15^50 shadow bow, for 50k. cudnt help but laugh

I'll respond once and then let this go, before this thread is locked. AWiggin, I don't set the price/value of items but I do a fair amount of trading and I know what most items are worth. A Gladius (pvp skin) is merchant fodder unless it is Req 8 and 15^50, in which case its worth 5k, possibly 10k. But if you disagree with me I'll give you one and you try to sell it for 10k. After hours or days of spamming with no response you'll gladly sell it for 5k or even less.
Back on topic, it's too bad anet has teased us with the idea of an Auction house only to backtrack as time marches on. An auction house would eliminate the problem of most players not knowing what their items are worth because they could search for similar items and see what they are selling for. It would also greatly reduce prices as sellers would tend to undercut each other for the quick sale.
some just take this game to damn serious... not any of you no, i mean those arrogant sellers! when someone is selling an item ive never heard of, and i ask if i could have a look at it, he sais to me "get lost"... maybe id like that item and would buy it but its their problem. because we are all anonymous on the internet, anyone can be mean to another, and get away with it, the social contact is down to minimum what is very very sad indeed...
